Gaming prompts work best when they define the design problem: genre, player fantasy, core loop, platform and constraints. Asking AI for “a cool game idea” usually produces generic concepts.
Define the Game Brief
- genre;
- platform;
- target player;
- session length;
- player fantasy;
- technical or scope constraints.
Generate Mechanics Around a Core Loop
Define what the player repeatedly does, what feedback they receive and how difficulty or mastery grows. AI can then propose mechanics that support that loop instead of unrelated features.
Characters and Worldbuilding
Give factions, conflict, visual rules and resource constraints. Strong worlds have internal logic, not just a list of aesthetic adjectives.
Level and Mission Prompts
Ask for objective, obstacle, player choice, escalation and reward. This produces more playable ideas than only asking for locations.
Reusable Gaming Prompt
Create 5 game concepts for [genre/platform]. Player fantasy: [fantasy]. Core loop: [loop]. Session length: [time]. Constraints: [constraints]. For each concept provide hook, core mechanic, progression, risk, art direction and why the idea is distinct.
